About the position

This full-time position located in Huntsville, AL, involves a range of responsibilities centered around the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software for client servers and workstations. The role requires a proactive approach to system performance tuning, ensuring that all systems are operating efficiently and securely. The successful candidate will be responsible for applying security patches and recommended operating system (OS) updates, as well as performing hardware and software upgrades as necessary. Additionally, the position entails testing and installing desktop software, managing user accounts, and providing backup and restore services to safeguard data integrity. A significant aspect of this role is providing day-to-day Linux system administration support, which includes security administration, operating system and software installations, and initial system configuration. The candidate must exhibit excellent communication skills, as they will be coordinating and communicating activities, status updates, outage notifications, and schedule information within a team-based environment. Preparing required documentation, both at the program level and user level, is also a critical responsibility. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential for success in this position, as the candidate will be expected to resolve network connectivity issues across various platforms, including RHEL, HP-UX, Solaris, and Windows. The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in information technology or system/network administration, with a solid understanding of current trends in network architecture and connectivity. The candidate must possess Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration experience and hold a CompTIA Security+ certification. The role may also involve some travel and requires flexible working hours, along with an active Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with hardware and software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, scanning, patching, and backup of client servers and workstations.
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades.
  • Apply security patches and recommended operating system (OS) patches.
  • Test and install desktop software and manage user accounts.
  • Provide system performance tuning and perform backups and restores.
  • Assist with setup and operations during dry run and formal test events.
  • Provide day-to-day Linux system administration support, including security administration and software installations.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills within a team-based environment.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications, and schedule information.
  • Prepare required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation.
  • Utilize strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in information technology or system/network administration.
  • Knowledgeable of current trends in Network architecture and connectivity.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues on RHEL, HP-UX, Solaris, and/or Windows platforms.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.

  • CISSP, RCHT RCT, or RHCE certified.
  • Familiar with integration of complex HWIL environments such as Radars, SIU, NSITE, Signal injectors, external networks.
