About the position

The Linux System Administrator position at Tyler Technologies is an advanced role focused on managing and maintaining IT systems, servers, databases, networking, and security. The role requires independent operation and the ability to make decisions within established guidelines, while also anticipating the impact of those decisions. The administrator will be responsible for provisioning, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Linux and Windows operating systems, virtualization, and modern DevOps tools. Collaboration with a close-knit team and ownership of processes are essential aspects of this role, which also includes participation in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1 & 2 Linux and Windows server technical support and troubleshooting for teams across the organization.
  • Work with other technical staff and IT teams in architecting technical solutions as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining and documenting system performance through monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Troubleshoot system hardware, software, networks, and operating systems; escalate application problems to vendors as necessary.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and maintaining professional networks.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accept ownership for accomplishing new and different requests to achieve organizational goals.
  • Explore opportunities to add value to the job and environment.
  • Work all assigned support tickets to ensure resolution within target timeframes.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, with some responsibility for Windows Server.
  • Maintain technical documentation and implement system changes for security compliance and business requirements.
  • Enhance monitoring of all systems and perform on-call and after-hour duties as needed.
  • Participate in regular security audits and certifications.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in system administration or a related role.
  • In-depth experience managing UNIX/Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Understanding of VMWare and virtualization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of networking and web protocols, including HTTP and DNS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical problems to non-technical staff.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • B.S. in Information Science/Technology, Computer Science, or related technology degree.
  • Remote work experience with teams in multiple time zones.
  • In-depth experience managing Windows Server 2019 and higher.
  • AWS Cloud Experience.
  • Experience with RHEL and/or Rocky Linux.
  • Knowledge of load balancers, preferably F5.
  • Scripting skills in Unix/Python/Perl/Powershell.
  • Experience with PHP, .NET, and/or Perl.
  • Docker experience.
  • Configuration management using Salt, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of Windows Active Directory.
