About the position

The Linux System Administrator position at Robert Half focuses on managing and maintaining Linux-based computing systems, with a strong emphasis on virtualization, storage, and security. This role is crucial for developing and optimizing system configurations to enhance existing environments, particularly for research databases. The position is a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day Linux administration support
  • Evaluating, designing, implementing, and optimizing system configurations and/or software setups to transition existing systems to a more advanced environment.
  • Selecting the best virtualization solutions and technologies based on research and security needs.
  • Collaborating with vendors and purchasing to acquire necessary hardware and software.
  • Architecting virtualization and storage solutions to support computing requirements, with a particular focus on supporting virtual machines designed for databases and incorporating redundancy.
  • Planning and architecting network and security solutions to support physical and virtual servers and storage across single and multiple locations.
  • Building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and migrating Linux-based virtual machines to support research databases according to project-specific requirements.
  • Evaluating the existing environment and identifying research computing needs.
  • Facilitating scalable on-premises research computing solutions.
  • Other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in Linux System Administration
  • Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Linux and RHEL
  • Experience with Server Virtualization
  • Hands-on experience with VMware and Hypervisor
  • Familiarity with KVM
  • Proficiency in Oracle
  • Basic understanding of Computer Programming
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proven track record of managing multiple tasks concurrently
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent work experience.
