About the position

The Linux System Administrator at Nightwing will oversee the operations of lab environments for a U.S. Government customer, ensuring high levels of service and availability. This hybrid role requires a candidate with extensive experience in Linux system administration and some cloud experience, focusing on system performance, security management, and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the customer's lab environments including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux operating systems.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system resources to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems from vulnerabilities, unauthorized access, and malware threats.
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for Linux systems.
  • Manage the patching process for Linux servers, including scheduling, testing, and deploying software updates and security patches.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools using shell scripting (e.g., Bash), Python, or other scripting languages to streamline system administration tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including key stakeholders to support project initiatives and resolve technical issues.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and training purposes.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to internal users and teams regarding Linux-related issues.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability
  • Must have an active Secret clearance and obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • 8+ years of directly relevant experience in Linux System Administration
  • Proficiency in managing and maintaining Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • Strong understanding of Linux file systems, permissions, and security
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and Lambda
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, etc.)
  • Experience with network troubleshooting and security (firewalls, security groups, NACLs)

  • Experience with shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) for automation and task management
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government IA policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and objectives
