About the position

The Linux System Administrator at Nightwing will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the customer's lab environments, ensuring high levels of service and availability. This hybrid role requires a candidate with extensive experience in Linux system administration and some cloud experience, particularly with AWS services. The position involves a variety of responsibilities including system administration, performance monitoring, security management, and technical support, all aimed at maintaining optimal system performance and security for U.S. Government operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the customer's lab environments including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux operating systems.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system resources to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems from vulnerabilities, unauthorized access, and malware threats.
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for Linux systems.
  • Manage the patching process for Linux servers, including scheduling, testing, and deploying software updates and security patches.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools using shell scripting (e.g., Bash), Python, or other scripting languages to streamline system administration tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including key stakeholders to support project initiatives and resolve technical issues.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and training purposes.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to internal users and teams regarding Linux-related issues.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain DHS Suitability
  • Must have an active Secret clearance and obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • 8+ years of directly relevant experience in Linux System Administration
  • Proficiency in managing and maintaining Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • Strong understanding of Linux file systems, permissions, and security
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and Lambda
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, etc.)
  • Experience with network troubleshooting and security (firewalls, security groups, NACLs)

  • Experience with shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) for automation and task management
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government IA policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and objectives
