About the position

The Linux System Administrator will be part of an IT and engineering team responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, configuration management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of a multi-platform, multi-site, high availability, secure, real-time network. The role requires the candidate to manage Linux infrastructure related to software and services, providing updates for strategic planning and handling various support levels from installation to troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily Linux system administration and O&M support activities in a complex network environment.
  • Sustain existing computing and network systems at various locations, focusing on off-site maintenance.
  • Monitor infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, ensuring timely identification and resolution of issues.
  • Provide system administration, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting for mission and analytic networks.
  • Manage user accounts, administration, access controls, and support.
  • Install, configure, and manage servers and performance.
  • Modify kernel parameters and disk partitions as needed.
  • Create and manage Ansible playbooks.
  • Configure and manage satellite servers and RedHat Identity management.
  • Support WAN infrastructure and client-server support for Linux software packages and hardware upgrades.
  • Conduct regression testing on new software releases.
  • Ensure OS compliance with DISA STIGS and develop/document standard operating procedures.
  • Implement endpoint protection within the Linux environment.
  • Understand Linux internals, TCP/IP, and related protocols.

Requirements

  • BS degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Master's with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Technical experience configuring IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems (e.g., Linux operating systems, VMware, Dell Power Edge Servers).
  • Technical experience troubleshooting IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems.
  • Technical experience monitoring IT software programs that utilize complex equipment/systems.
  • Experience with DISA STIGS and IT system optimization.
  • Experience providing information for and documenting technical processes.
  • Familiarity with Data Center design, configuration, and support.
  • Ability to respond quickly to customer inquiries and provide detailed status reports.
  • Commitment to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
  • Strong analytic abilities and meticulous work ethic.
  • Independent thinker capable of working proficiently both independently and within a team.
  • Ability to respond to system administration, operations, and maintenance problems on an as-needed or on-call basis.
  • Certifications: Security+ CE, Linux+ CE.
  • Must be a US citizen and either a resident of Bowie, MD or willing to relocate.
