About the position

As a Linux System Administrator at ManTech, you will play a crucial role in supporting our national security initiatives while working in a dynamic and diverse environment. This position is based in Columbia, MD, and involves a variety of responsibilities that encompass both Linux and Windows system administration. You will be tasked with performing essential Linux sys admin functions, which include operating system loading, patching, and managing services such as LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Samba, SSH, and VNC. Your expertise will be vital in setting up Linux servers and ensuring seamless data sharing between Linux and Windows-based systems. In addition to Linux administration, you will also handle Windows system administration tasks, including OS loading, patching, and managing Active Directory and Remote Desktop services. You will be responsible for assessing system vulnerabilities using tools like SecScan and Nessus, hardening systems through manual processes and scripts, and conducting system/application-level regression testing. Your role will also involve implementing and administering virus scanning applications to maintain system integrity. A significant part of your responsibilities will include shell scripting (primarily in Bash) to enhance the efficiency of system administration, troubleshooting, and automation tasks. You will also be expected to have a basic understanding of router and switch configuration, which is essential for compliance scanning and system hardening. This position requires a proactive approach to security and system management, ensuring that all systems are robust and compliant with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Linux system administration functions including OS loading, patching, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Samba, SSH, VNC, and user/group management.
  • Set up Linux servers and ensure data sharing between Linux and Windows-based systems.
  • Assess system vulnerabilities using tools like SecScan and Nessus, and harden systems through manual processes and scripts.
  • Implement and administer virus scanning applications.
  • Perform shell scripting (Bash and others) to improve system administration and automation tasks.
  • Conduct Windows system administration functions including OS loading, patching, Active Directory management, and Remote Desktop services.
  • Set up Windows servers (Server 2019, Server 2022) and clients (Win7, Win8, Win10, Win11) and ensure data sharing with Linux servers.
  • Assess system vulnerabilities on Windows systems and perform hardening and regression testing.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years of experience as a System Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university, or five (5) years of additional System Administrator experience in lieu of a degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ or higher) or the ability to secure such certification.
  • Basic understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements and processes.
  • Basic knowledge of router and switch configuration for system hardening and compliance scanning.
  • Experience with Elastic (ELK) Stack configuration and user experience.
  • PowerShell scripting experience for system administration and automation tasks.
  • Experience installing, integrating, and troubleshooting GOTS/COTS Software/Applications on Windows and Linux servers.
