About the position

The Linux System Administrator at The CCS Companies is responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and scalability of Linux servers and associated infrastructure. This role involves administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal server operation.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures and maintains dedicated RHEL Linux servers for the organization.
  • Manages, monitors and maintains associated databases and storage infrastructure.
  • Performs regular system updates and security patches ensuring optimal performance of the Linux servers and associated infrastructure.
  • Works directly with DevOps on critical tasks optimizing, monitoring, supporting and developing system features beneficial to the productivity of the organization.
  • Manages and maintains system backups, upgrades, DR exercises, migration and failover scenarios.
  • Monitors system performance, troubleshoots issues and implements solutions.
  • Creates and maintains scripts for automating system tasks using Bash, Python, etc.
  • Develops, recommends and enforces security protocols and policies to protect the systems.
  • Conducts regular security audits and vulnerability assessments of the servers and associated infrastructure.
  • Responds to security incidents and implements mitigation strategies.
  • Maintains documentation of system configurations, procedures and policies.
  • Provides regular reports on system performance and security.
  • Assists in developing and implementing IT policies and procedures.
  • Works with the IT team to ensure seamless system integration and operation.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to system users and IT staff.
  • Participates in on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in a Linux System Administration role or relevant Linux System environment is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of Linux OS (RHEL), including Kernel, is required.
  • Professional certifications in RHCE, LPIC - 2/3 preferred.
  • Experience with VMWare, cloud platforms (AWS) and database administration/support in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL preferred.
  • Proficient with scripting languages including Bash, Python, etc. is required.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, firewalling and encrypted communications.
  • Ability to use configuration management tools and other diagnostic tools relevant to the technology.
  • Strong network services, security knowledge and excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and able to accurately document related tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team structure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certifications in RHCE, LPIC - 2/3 preferred.
  • Experience with VMWare, cloud platforms (AWS) and database administration/support in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL preferred.
