About the position

The Linux System Administrator at Qualis is responsible for maintaining, configuring, and operating Linux computer systems in a high-performance computing environment critical to national defense. This role involves ensuring system security, providing technical support, and collaborating with government entities to maintain compliance with security standards. The position requires a strong background in Linux systems and scripting, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, configure, and operate Linux computer systems in a multi-system server HPC environment.
  • Install and build system images and upgrade systems as required within short timelines.
  • Comprehend and interpret requirements to build supporting IT checklists.
  • Install and maintain security patches on Production, Integrations, and Development systems.
  • Maintain system security in coordination with organizational security requirements and policies.
  • Ensure reliability of local services such as account management, storage arrays, disaster recovery, and backups.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications for IT staff regarding new or upgraded IT infrastructure.
  • Provide cybersecurity support for application development, network implementation, and security controls.
  • Monitor and document system changes in accordance with the Configuration Management Policy.
  • Assist in producing, maintaining, and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and System Security Plans (SSP).
  • Develop, implement, and update Information Management Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD Security and Technical Implementation Guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant field with 3-10 years of experience.
  • Experience with Linux operating system and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, or Perl).
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) preferred.
  • Experience using VMware virtualization with NetApp storage appliances.
  • Knowledge of standard networking principles and practices.
  • Experience in Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Compliance with DoD 8140 with Security + certification.
  • Ability to understand customer technical objectives and apply effective solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively alone or within a group.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
