About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator at GCI is responsible for the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of both Windows and Linux-based architectures. This role focuses on enhancing system stability and performance, maintaining security, and providing tier 3 engineering support. The administrator will work with various applications and infrastructure, ensuring continuous operation and effective troubleshooting of complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily operational support for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems and applications.
  • Support virtual and physical infrastructure of servers running CentOS in various configurations.
  • Develop and maintain environments running in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Maintain the integrity and security of systems by monitoring security feeds and dashboards.
  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for applications across a complex computing infrastructure.
  • Monitor application and operating system performance; analyze, document and remediate incidents.
  • Leverage scripting and system automation tools.
  • Research and recommend hardware and software, coordinate installation, and provide backup recovery.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, engineers, and clients to ensure proper integration of applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience with Redhat and/or Centos.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMWare ESXi infrastructure 6.x + vCenter server.
  • Experience in server builds using automated mechanisms.
  • Experience with Ansible and/or Puppet for provisioning and configuration management.
  • Experience with building and maintaining applications in an AWS account.
  • Experience with code maintenance using Git, Gitlab, and/or Github.
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Linux System Administrator
  • Knowledge of network engineering fundamentals and design.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server versions 2008, 2016.
  • Experience with SCCM, WDS, MS SQL server, Powershell, batch scripting.
  • Experience with syslog applications such as Splunk.
  • Experience with NetApp NAS systems.
  • Experience with Hadoop infrastructure and applications.
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus switches and Cisco Firepower Security Appliances.
  • AWS Certification.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification.
  • Certifications relating to IT Security (CISSP, GIAC, Security+).
