About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Engineer / Systems Administrator with an active TS/SCI clearance and polygraph to join our Enterprise Services and Solutions Division in Annapolis Junction, MD. This is an active and fully budgeted position that requires a candidate with solid experience in administering Linux environments. The role involves working with virtual servers and storage, and the ideal candidate should be well-versed in Linux and capable of working with minimal direction. In this position, you will provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems. You will manage the IT system infrastructure and oversee any processes related to these systems. Your responsibilities will include supporting IT systems through day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client/server/storage/network devices, as well as mobile devices. You will also provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support, identifying, diagnosing, and resolving problems as they arise. Additionally, you will be responsible for the escalation and communication of status updates to agency management and internal customers. You will support the dispatch system and hardware problems, remaining involved in the resolution process. Your role will also include configuring and managing Linux operating systems, installing and loading operating system software, troubleshooting, maintaining integrity, and configuring network components. You will implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance, ensuring optimal system operations and resource utilization while performing system capacity analysis and planning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems.
  • Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems.
  • Provide assistance to users in accessing and using IT systems.
  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems.
  • Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers.
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization and perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Provide in-depth experience in troubleshooting IT systems.
  • Provide detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers for escalated tickets.
  • Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remain involved in the resolution process.
  • Configure and manage Linux (or other applicable) operating systems and install/load operating system software, troubleshoot, maintain integrity of and configure network components, along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • Ten (10) years' experience as a Systems Engineer/Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Five (5) years of additional Systems Administrator experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
