About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator and Security Engineer role focuses on maintaining the Authority-to-Operate (ATO) for the U.S. Navy's technology systems. This position combines technical expertise in Linux systems with security engineering responsibilities, ensuring compliance with various security standards and protocols. The role involves reviewing security scans, tracking vulnerabilities, and assisting in software enhancements and security fixes.

Responsibilities

  • Review Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) and Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) scans.
  • Track and investigate Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), and other Cyber Command vulnerabilities.
  • Assist with sprint planning to identify applicable software enhancements, security fixes, and trouble reports.
  • Create, manage, and brief Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Test Plans to project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with Linux-based IT systems and applications, including Red Hat KVM and ESX VMware.
  • 3 years of experience with information assurance activities on a DoD network in support of an ATO.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Podman or Docker.
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Networking (SDN) concepts and technologies.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes and tools, including Jira.
  • Ability to create and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Test Plans.
  • Secret clearance required.
  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • DoD 8570, IAT Level II Certification, including Security+ required.
  • SDN or Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Bug and project tracking in JIRA.
  • Experience with CMPRO Product Life Cycle Management Software.
  • Experience with software configuration management processes, including planning, change control, validation, and release for multiple product baselines.
  • Top Secret clearance preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physical Science preferred.
  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator Certification preferred.
