About the position

This position is an integral member of the Peraton Labs Network Systems and Cyber Mission Sector team supporting a customer site in College Park, Maryland. The role involves implementing, maintaining, and enhancing complex and diverse research infrastructure systems while ensuring their appropriate security posture. The candidate will perform system administration tasks for both Linux and Microsoft Windows environments, which includes managing server systems, integrating various solutions (GOTS/COTS/open-source), and utilizing virtualization technologies. Networking and TCP/IP protocols, as well as storage technologies, will also be a significant part of the responsibilities. The position requires the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IT/networking hardware and software in both classified and unclassified spaces, including activating network ports and patching networks as needed. In addition to the technical responsibilities, the candidate will interface with the customer and monitor subcontract tasking. They will be responsible for preparing and maintaining images for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, configuring new systems, and applying best practice security configurations on computers, servers, and network equipment. Regular updates of systems and anti-virus tools are also required. The role includes physical setup, cabling, and powering of computers in classified and unclassified spaces for new programs or additions, as well as devising backup mechanisms tailored to program-specific requirements. The candidate will also create custom solutions or recommend commercial tools to automate audit procedures, support the ISSM in audit tasks, and maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, and operational security measures. Completing required training in a timely manner is also essential.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse research infrastructure systems and their appropriate security posture.
  • Perform Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration tasks.
  • Administer Windows and Linux server systems.

  • Utilize virtualization technologies and manage networking and TCP/IP protocols.

  • Perform regular system and anti-virus tool updates.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware, networking devices, and software.
  • Implement physical controls and set up computers in classified and unclassified spaces.
  • Devise information system backup mechanisms and perform system/data backup and archive logs according to security plans.
  • Create custom solutions or provide commercial tool recommendations to automate audit procedures.
  • Support ISSM to perform audit tasks as needed.
  • Develop and execute approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components and media.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures.
  • Complete required trainings timely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with six years of experience, or a Master's Degree with four years' experience, or a Ph.D. with two years' experience. Alternatively, four years of additional related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux server system administration and network engineering.
  • Experience designing, developing, and delivering IT and telecommunications systems and solutions.
  • Ability to work on complex projects as a senior contributor within a development team consisting of customer and subcontractor personnel.
  • Active TS SCI security clearance with a current polygraph.
