The Linux Systems Administrator II plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability, reliability, and stability of the IT infrastructure. This position involves performing multiple functions, either independently or under the guidance of experienced personnel, to maintain the operating systems software and hardware. The administrator will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, installing, and maintaining these systems, ensuring they meet the high criticality demands of medium to large-scale operations. Regular monitoring of the systems is essential, as is serving as a focal point for support, which is a routine part of the job. In addition to routine maintenance, the Linux Systems Administrator II is expected to plan for the future by setting direction and documenting strategies for their specific area of responsibility within the information systems infrastructure. This includes evaluating and configuring systems, installing and testing new releases, and analyzing performance to ensure optimal operating efficiency. The role also requires the administrator to analyze system problems to identify areas needing improvement and to follow established procedures for efficient infrastructure management. The position involves maintaining appropriate records, including statistical reports, inventories, and technical documentation. The administrator will also assist in the installation of new or enhanced applications and hardware, including servers, and will work collaboratively with peers to achieve goals based on guidance from management or other experienced personnel. Managing medium enterprise projects according to division standards and requirements is also a key responsibility. As a subject matter expert in their area of responsibility, the administrator will leverage their broad technical knowledge of information systems to recommend solutions based on current infrastructure components.
