About the position

Our client has an immediate opening for a Linux Systems Administrator with some Solaris experience. This position is hybrid in Lexington, MA, requiring candidates to be onsite 2-3 times a week. An active Secret Security clearance, or above, is required for this role. The position encompasses various domains including IT Infrastructure, Networking, system architecture design, and system configuration management. The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for the management, administration, and support of all MIT/LL IT systems' infrastructure within the group. This includes configuring and maintaining both physical and virtual servers, as well as researcher workstations, in a secure RMF compliant and documented manner. Additionally, the administrator will support new technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory. A key responsibility of this role is vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified Laboratory systems, addressing Category 1, 2, and 3 issues in a timely manner. The administrator will also be tasked with recognizing and troubleshooting issues that arise with developers' machines across various operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Solaris. The role requires performing all related duties as assigned, ensuring that the IT infrastructure remains robust and secure.

Responsibilities

  • Management, administration, and support of all MIT/LL IT systems' infrastructure in the group.
  • Configuring and maintaining physical and virtual servers and researcher workstations in a secure RMF compliant manner.
  • Supporting additional technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory.
  • Vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified Laboratory systems, addressing Cat 1, 2, 3 issues in a timely manner.
  • Recognizing and troubleshooting issues with developer's machines across various operating systems.
  • Performing all related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Security clearance or above is required.
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related technical discipline.
  • Certification(s) in Solaris administration, Red Hat, VMWare, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or Linux Professional Institute Certification.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, and VMware.
  • Familiarity with Dell hardware and software applications such as RedHat IDM, McAfee, LDAP, Splunk, NetApp, VMware vCenter/ESXI/vSAN, Github, and ACAS.
  • Knowledge of networking applications and protocols including TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, NTP, and SSH.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Ansible, Shell Scripting, and PowerShell.
  • Skilled at centralized authentication (SSSD, IDM, Active Directory) and centralized sudo administration via IDM.

Nice-to-haves

  • Linux Realtime Kernel support experience.
  • Experience with Juniper and/or Cisco.
  • Python/PyPI experience.
  • Familiarity with Docker and/or Podman.
