About the position

This position is a key member of the Peraton Labs Network Systems and Cyber Mission Sector team, primarily located in College Park, MD, with the option to work 1-2 days a week in Laurel, MD. The role involves implementing, maintaining, and enhancing complex research infrastructure systems while ensuring their security posture. The candidate will perform system administration tasks across Linux and Microsoft Windows environments, integrate various solutions, and manage networking and storage technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse research infrastructure systems and their appropriate security posture.
  • Perform Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration tasks.
  • Administer Windows and Linux server systems.
  • Integrate GOTS/COTS/open-source solutions.
  • Manage virtualization technologies and networking protocols (TCP/IP).
  • Handle storage technologies and remote access.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot IT/networking hardware and software in classified and unclassified spaces.
  • Prepare and maintain images for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Configure new systems and apply best practice security configurations on computers, servers, and network equipment.
  • Perform system and anti-virus tool updates regularly.
  • Implement physical controls and physically set up, cable, and power computers in classified and unclassified spaces for new programs or additions.
  • Activate network ports and patch networks as needed.
  • Devise information system backup mechanisms for program-specific requirements.
  • Perform system/data backup and archive logs according to the security plan.
  • Exercise system and data recovery procedures regularly.
  • Create custom solutions or provide commercial tool recommendations to automate audit procedures.
  • Support ISSM to perform audit tasks as needed.
  • Develop and execute approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components and media.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures.
  • Interface with the customer and monitor subcontract tasking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with six years of experience, or a Master's Degree with four years' experience, or a Ph.D. with two years' experience. Four years of additional experience can substitute for a degree.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux server system administration and network engineering.
  • Experience designing, developing, and delivering IT and telecommunications systems and solutions.
  • Ability to work on complex projects as a senior contributor within a development team.
  • Active TS SCI security clearance with a current polygraph.

  • Solid understanding of modern computer network operations and capability development processes.
  • Understanding of basic principles of modern computer networking, including hardware, software, tools, protocols, and Internet architecture.
  • Experience with large-scale software development and sustainment efforts.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining good working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with operational mission partners in the DoD.
