About the position

Apex Systems is seeking a seasoned Linux Systems Administrator with over 5 years of experience for a full-time project based in Akron, Ohio. This role is primarily focused on administering, maintaining, and supporting large systems and applications, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) tools, and threat intelligence platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for working on cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing the company's security posture. Given the nature of the role, the position allows for 90% remote work, providing flexibility while ensuring that critical security systems are effectively managed and supported. In this position, the Linux Systems Administrator will manage and administer large systems and applications utilized by the security team. This includes researching, evaluating, designing, engineering, and proof-of-concept for both commercial and open-source security technology solutions. The role requires proactive identification, tracking, and mitigation of project risks and issues, ensuring that security measures are robust and effective. The administrator will also respond to Level 3 incidents, manage cross-functional technology projects, and collaborate with various teams to implement security solutions that align with best practices and industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Linux operating systems, system administration, and cybersecurity, with proven experience in software patching and configuration. The role demands excellent project management and communication skills, as the administrator will be involved in various initiatives aimed at improving the organization's security framework.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer large systems and applications used by the security team.
  • Research, evaluate, design, engineer, and proof-of-concept both commercial and Open-Source security technology solutions.
  • Proactively identify, track, and mitigate project risks and issues.
  • Administer a variety of different applications such as SIEM solutions, SOAR tools, threat intelligence solutions, cloud security, and network security devices.
  • Respond to Level 3 incidents.
  • Manage cross-functional technology projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of Linux Operating Systems experience.
  • Proven System Administration experience on large systems and applications.
  • Deep experience doing software patching and configuration.
  • Administration of Splunk or a similar tool.
  • IT Cyber Security Exposure.
  • Project Management and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with SIEM's such as Splunk or CyberArk.
  • Cyber Security Certificates such as Security+.
  • Threat Intel or Security Operations experience.
  • Exposure to frameworks, standards, and/or best practices such as NIST CSF, PCI-DSS, CIS CSCs, MITRE ATT&CK.
  • TCP/IP experience.
