About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator Staff role at Lockheed Martin focuses on maintaining and optimizing IT systems, particularly in Linux environments. This position is crucial for ensuring the security and functionality of IT systems that support critical infrastructure and services. The role involves a combination of system support, troubleshooting, user assistance, and proactive monitoring to safeguard the networks that underpin modern life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems.
  • Manage IT system infrastructure and associated processes.
  • Handle the daily configuration and operation of IT systems.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including monitoring and resolving issues for client/server, storage, network devices, and mobile devices.
  • Ensure smooth functioning and availability of IT systems through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Deliver Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution.
  • Assist in the escalation and communication of system status to agency management and internal customers.
  • Stay involved in resolving hardware issues, particularly through the dispatch system.
  • Configure and manage Linux operating systems.
  • Install and load operating system software, ensuring systems are up-to-date and secure.
  • Troubleshoot issues, maintain the integrity of network components, and implement enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization.
  • Conduct system capacity analysis and planning to ensure systems meet current and future demands.
  • Provide support to users in accessing and using IT systems.
  • Offer in-depth troubleshooting and problem resolution for escalated issues.
  • Deliver detailed analysis and feedback to management and internal customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university, or five (5) years of additional Systems Administrator experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 10 years of experience as a Systems Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Experience with Linux system administration, including configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and vSphere is beneficial.
  • Ansible experience is preferred.
  • Clearance Level: TS/SCI w/Poly SP.
