About the position

SAIC is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support the US Navy's Computer Network Defense team in North Charleston, SC. The role involves providing technical and system administration support primarily for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers, troubleshooting issues, patching and updating servers, and assisting in application deployment. The administrator will work with various Linux/Unix operating systems, ensuring software integration and security compliance while coordinating with users and cybersecurity teams.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, identify, and address issues on Linux servers.
  • Patch and update Linux servers as needed.
  • Assist in deploying applications or configurations approved for deployment.
  • Modify configuration files and perform packet capture analysis.
  • Restart services and manage user accounts on Linux systems.
  • Configure centralized authentication and review log files.
  • Integrate new and updated software into existing operating systems.
  • Coordinate with users and software test teams to address data availability and security issues.
  • Provide onsite support to configure and deploy CND products.
  • Enter communication and tasking into the ticket management tool (Remedy).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or Master's degree and three years of related experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Familiarity with CND Information Assurance (IA) systems.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking and protocols.
  • Ability to analyze network traffic at the packet level.
  • Solid knowledge of DoD RHEL requirements and best practices.
  • Experience with designing, developing, installing, and troubleshooting custom RHEL solutions.
  • Utilization of DISA STIGs to secure Linux systems.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Technical support experience with RHEL, Yum/Satellite, and Ansible processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of Automation, Ansible, and RHEL technologies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Ansible Playbook for system automation.
  • Active Secret Clearance and eligibility for a Top Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • OS Certifications such as Windows or Linux Variant, VMWare, MS SQL, Active Directory, HBSS, ACAS, SPLUNK, Server+, or similar.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering activities and process improvement approaches.
  • Experience delivering technology solutions in a fast-paced environment.
