About the position

The LINUX Systems Administrator position at BAE Systems is a critical role that supports the daily operations of the MATCH program under the D3I Contract. The primary responsibilities include monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, capacity management, provisioning, hardware and software configuration, patching, upgrades, and performance monitoring/tuning. This role is essential for the design, development, demonstration, and integration of new capabilities that deliver mission-relevant information to the Warfighter, ensuring secure access for the Army and other Department of Defense (DoD) and Joint agencies. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of system administration experience in Red Hat LINUX, along with the ability to compose clear and concise system documentation and reports. Additional technical experience or certifications such as LINUX LPIC, Red Hat RHCSA, or Red Hat RHSE are also required. The position demands expert knowledge in LINUX (Redhat) administration, familiarity with various OSS tools for managing and troubleshooting Linux infrastructure, and proficiency in LINUX/UNIX shell scripting and Ansible scripting. Candidates should have strong experience in applying STIG checklists, administering servers, backup operations, and systems monitoring in complex network environments. Experience with datacenter migrations, server upgrades, O/S and firmware patching, and maintaining high-availability SLAs is crucial. The role also requires knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery documentation, cybersecurity practices, server hardening, and DMZ deployment. Strong writing and communication skills, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook, are also necessary for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage daily operations of the MATCH program on the D3I Contract.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform capacity management and provisioning of hardware and software.
  • Conduct patching and upgrades of systems as required.
  • Monitor system performance and tune configurations for optimal operation.
  • Compose clear and concise system documentation and reports.
  • Administer servers and manage backup operations in complex network environments.
  • Ensure compliance with STIG checklists and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Participate in datacenter migrations and server upgrades.
  • Maintain high-availability SLAs and document business continuity plans.

Requirements

  • Minimum six years of system administration experience in Red Hat LINUX.
  • Expert knowledge of LINUX (Redhat) administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of RedHat based distributions.
  • Familiarity with OSS tools for managing and troubleshooting Linux infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in LINUX/UNIX shell scripting and Ansible scripting.
  • Strong knowledge of applying STIG checklists.
  • Experience administering servers and backup operations in complex environments.
  • Experience with datacenter migrations and server upgrades.
  • Ability to meet high-availability SLAs (99.999% uptime).
  • Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery documentation.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
