About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator will primarily focus on managing and supporting IT systems infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Linux platforms. The role requires in-depth Linux experience and the ability to work effectively within a small, fast-paced team. The candidate will be responsible for system administration, troubleshooting, and vulnerability remediation across secure and unclassified systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, administer, and support all Client IT systems infrastructure in the Group.
  • Support additional technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory.
  • Responsible for vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified Laboratory systems, addressing Cat 1, 2, 3 issues in a timely manner.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot issues with developer machines across various Operating Systems including Windows and Linux.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Approximately 5 years of Linux administration experience.
  • Proficient in RedHat Enterprise Linux and VMware.
  • Experience with Dell hardware.
  • Familiarity with RedHat Satellite, McAfee, Enterprise Central Logging/Splunk, LDAP, VMware vCenter/ESXI/vSAN, and Gitlab.
  • Knowledge of networking applications and protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP, and HTTP/S.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Ansible, Shell Scripting, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Skilled in centralized authentication (SSSD, IDM, Active Directory) and centralized sudo administration via IDM.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining both physical and virtual servers and researcher workstations.
  • Ability to install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
  • Experience in developing and documenting systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
  • Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning, disk checks, routine reboots, data dumps, and testing.
  • Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing classified IT systems, STIGs, SCAPS, RMF.
  • Certifications in Red Hat, VMWare, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or Linux Professional Institute Certification.
  • Experience managing system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Mac experience.
  • Experience with virtual machines such as VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.
  • Network administration experience including managing data center and small network configurations: switches, routers, firewalls, and modern software management and monitoring tools.
  • Experience maintaining directory services such as Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP.
