About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator at Leidos will support the DISA's GSM-O II contract at Ford Island, Hawaii. This role involves maintaining the operation of multi-user computer systems primarily running Redhat Linux, while also supporting Windows Server. The position requires on-call and weekend support as needed, with a focus on adhering to service level agreements (SLAs) and acceptable levels of performance (ALPs).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, coordinating with network administrators.
  • Set up administrator and service accounts, tune system performance, install system-wide software, and allocate mass storage space.
  • Interact with users and evaluate vendor products, making recommendations for hardware and software purchases.
  • Coordinate installation and provide backup recovery for systems.
  • Develop and monitor policies and standards for computing resource allocation.
  • Create, maintain, and implement detailed documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Coach and review the work of lower-level technical staff.
  • Provide support during business hours and be available for on-call, extended hours, and weekend support as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline and 8 years of related experience with Unix or Redhat Linux.
  • Experience with VMware Vcenter and associated products.
  • Experience with integration of Network Management (NM) and Element Management (EM) systems with network performance, trouble ticketing, and security subsystems.
  • Experience with support systems including enclave Ethernet switches, storage area networks (SAN), and network attached storage (NAS).
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (e.g., bash) and experience in other languages like Perl.
  • Application of security settings and commercial best practices such as DISA STIGS.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance is required.
  • DoD 8750 certification at least IAT level II, e.g., Security+ce.

Nice-to-haves

  • Integration of Network Management (NM) and Element Management (EM) systems with network performance, trouble ticketing, and security subsystems.
  • Thorough knowledge of networking principles including TCP/IP.
  • Experience with a ticketing system such as BMC ITSM.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certification.
  • Windows Server experience.
  • Experience working with virtual environments.
