About the position

SAIC is seeking a skilled Linux System Administrator to join our team, responsible for the day-to-day administration of our Linux server infrastructure. This role encompasses a variety of tasks essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of our systems. The successful candidate will manage all internet requests, including DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, and PHP, ensuring that all services are running smoothly and efficiently. Regular data backups are a critical part of this role, along with creating new stored procedures and maintaining backup listings to safeguard our data. In addition to these responsibilities, the Linux System Administrator will analyze error logs to identify and resolve issues, providing exceptional customer support for web hosting, ISP, and LAN customers. Effective communication with staff, vendors, and customers is paramount, and the candidate must exhibit professionalism in all interactions. The role also involves enhancing, maintaining, and creating tools for the Linux environment, as well as troubleshooting service problems ranging from disaster recovery to login issues. The administrator will be tasked with installing necessary systems and security tools, collaborating with the Data Network Engineer and other departments to analyze hardware requirements and make recommendations for acquisitions. When server problems arise, the Linux System Administrator will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving these issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to services.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all internet requests inclusive to DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
  • Take regular backups of data and create new stored procedures.
  • Analyze error logs and fix issues while providing excellent customer support for Webhosting, ISP, and LAN customers.
  • Communicate with staff, vendors, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Enhance, maintain, and create tools for the Linux environment and its users.
  • Detect and solve service problems ranging from disaster recovery to login issues.
  • Install necessary systems and security tools.
  • Work with the Data Network Engineer and other departments to analyze hardware requirements and make recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot server issues when they occur.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, master's degree plus four (4) years of experience, or four (4) years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Strong Linux admin experience in a large enterprise environment (Redhat Enterprise preferred).
  • Strong UI (front end) development skills using Node.js and other JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.
  • Backend Java development experience for OpenShift (or other containers) running environment.
  • Advanced Linux Administration experience.
  • Experience with Apache and Tomcat Web Services for Windows/Red Hat Linux applications.
  • Proficiency in Perl Scripting.
  • Expertise in PowerShell and Azure CLI.
  • Knowledge of VMWARE for server management backup/restore.
