About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator at IBM is responsible for managing and supporting various aspects of Linux systems, including networking, storage, application management, virtualization, database administration, and containerization. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to troubleshoot and optimize systems effectively. The position is onsite five days a week in San Jose, California.

Responsibilities

  • Support and manage Linux systems across various domains including networking, storage, and application management.
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking protocols and firewall settings.
  • Manage storage technologies and filesystems, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Install and configure applications, ensuring security and access controls are in place.
  • Manage virtual machines and their configurations, ensuring connectivity and resource allocation.
  • Administer databases, particularly MySQL/MariaDB, ensuring proper installation and configuration.
  • Oversee container management using Docker or Podman.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator.
  • Strong networking skills including knowledge of TCP, UDP, and Ping.
  • Experience with Netplan and NetworkManager for network configurations.
  • Advanced skills in iptables for firewall management.
  • Familiarity with storage technologies such as HDD, SSD, NVMe, LVM, RAID, and NFS.
  • Proficient in Linux filesystems and permissions management.
  • Ability to install and configure applications like Apache, PHP, and MySQL/MariaDB.
  • Experience with libvirt VMs and XML configuration for virtualization.
  • Proficient in managing databases, particularly MySQL/MariaDB.
  • Experience with container management tools like Docker or Podman.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator.
