About the position

Leidos is seeking a System Administrator to support a large enterprise IT contract for the Department of Defense (DOD). This role requires an individual with technical experience in administering both Linux and Windows servers within a VMware virtual environment. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented to effectively capture customer inquiries and provide appropriate responses. The System Administrator will interact with other administrators to address service inquiries and resolve problems. Responsibilities include examining customer issues, suggesting corrective actions, and implementing solutions to restore service. Additionally, the role involves analyzing recurring problems to initiate preventive measures and assessing existing infrastructure for performance enhancements. The individual will provide systems and software operations and maintenance support in a large, multi-enclave enterprise environment. Working collaboratively in a team setting, the System Administrator will ensure that mission needs are met and that customer capabilities are fully functional. Responsibilities may also include performing technical software configurations, rebooting systems, and executing other remedial actions on customer servers. The position requires support for customer requirements in a 24/7/365 environment, including on-call support during after-hours outages. The successful candidate will also be responsible for updating operations and monitoring documentation for the 24/7/365 Operations Watch personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Linux and Windows servers within a VMware virtual environment.
  • Interact with customers to handle service inquiries and problems.
  • Examine customer problems and suggest corrective actions.
  • Implement solutions to restore service and prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Analyze existing infrastructure for performance enhancements.
  • Provide systems and software operations and maintenance support in a multi-enclave environment.
  • Perform technical software configuration and remedial actions on customer servers.
  • Support customer requirements in a 24/7/365 environment, including on-call support.
  • Update operations and monitoring documentation for Operations Watch personnel.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of AWS or Azure cloud services and the cloud ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) concepts and solutions such as Dell VXRail.
  • Experience with Tier 2 system administration of server operating systems such as Linux (CentOS, RHEL, or Ubuntu) and Microsoft Server (2012 R2/2016).
  • Familiarity with supporting virtual desktops running Linux, Microsoft Windows, and/or MacOS.
  • Experience with Scripting/Automation through Linux Shell scripts, PowerShell, PowerCLI, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in a growing environment.
  • Experience with log reviews, incident analysis, and identification of issue trends.
  • Experience with server patch management methodologies.
  • Time management skills with the ability to work within an IT Service Management/ticketing system (ServiceNow) independently.
  • Ability to triage and properly classify incidents and prioritize work efforts accordingly.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Track record of working effectively within a team and supporting peers toward improved processes and results.
  • Must meet DoD 8570.11- IAT Level II certification requirements (currently Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP).
