About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator at Red River will be responsible for supporting the Laboratory's enterprise classified computing infrastructure, demonstrating expertise in Linux operating systems, and managing various systems and services. The role requires a strong understanding of both workstation and server environments, with a focus on security compliance and automation. The ideal candidate will also engage in DevSecOps practices and provide technical support within a classified environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation and support of virtual platforms built on Microsoft's Hyper-V, VMware, or Cloud Services such as AWS/Azure.
  • Design, implementation, and support services for Microsoft related technologies: Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, etc.
  • IT support relating to technical issues involving Microsoft's core business applications.
  • Excellent knowledge with email solution in area of implementation, configuration, and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft platforms including the administration and management of Server 2008 through 2019 technologies including Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and Group Policy.
  • Remote access solution implementation and support: Remote Desktop and Citrix.
  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery and backup solutions such as Veeam and Azure/AWS.
  • System documentation and consulting services to include system reviews and recommendations.
  • Provide third-tier escalation support and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Strong understanding of remote solutions such as Remote Desktop Services and Citrix.
  • Excellent knowledge of network storage solutions such as Netapp and Nimble.
  • Basic knowledge of network services: WAN and LAN connectivity, routers, firewalls, and security.
  • Intermediate to strong knowledge of Azure/O365 services such as Intune, Azure AD, Exchange, and Powershell scripting.
  • Intermediate to strong knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, S3, and Route 53.
  • Works with Business Applications, vendors, consultants, contractors, and other IT personnel.
  • Draft/Update SOPs as procedures and support and maintain Linux desktop and server infrastructure.
  • Support and utilize Satellite to patch and manage Linux systems.
  • Develop and maintain STIG compliant Linux desktop and server images.
  • Deploy new Linux desktops and servers as needed.
  • Assist with developing and implementing a strategy for Ansible Automation Platform.
  • In collaboration with the unclassified Linux team, assist with developing and implementing a DevSecOps infrastructure.
  • Participate in projects as needed where Linux administration is required.
  • Provide 1st tier technical support as needed in support of the Laboratory community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Computer Science or relevant technical field of study
  • 7 years of experience supporting RHEL 7/8 workstation and server
  • 5 years of experience utilizing Satellite to support Linux systems
  • Experience with bash/shell, Python and perl scripting
  • Understanding of Linux troubleshooting to include the boot process, Kickstart building, systemd, monitoring of system resources, kernel tuning, system performance troubleshooting, system calls and tracing
  • Experience configuring storage for Linux systems (LVM, file systems, RAID, storage encryption, SAN, NAS and NFS)
  • Package development and deployment (rpm, yum, dnf)
  • Strong overall network skills (package captures, NIC latency tuning, route tables and tracing, subnetting, firewall/iptable, TCP/UDP/IP protocols)
  • Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate in team efforts
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and disciplines quickly
  • Minimum of a Secret clearance
  • Security+ certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Experience utilizing Ansible Automation Platform to support Linux systems
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps environments
  • Experience supporting software deployment on Linux
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI) process and maintaining an inspection ready environment.
