New Mexico Tech - Socorro, NM
posted 3 months ago
New Mexico Tech is currently constructing the Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer (MROI), an array of astronomical telescopes that will make images at angular resolutions 50 times better than the James Webb Space Telescope. The Linux Systems and Network Administrator will join the team delivering the MROI and will be responsible for the system and network administration of the computer hardware associated with the project. This role involves providing technical leadership in network security and system administration of the hardware that supports the software development of the MROI. The administrator will oversee the systems at the Research Office building and the Magdalena Ridge, ensuring that all systems are secure and functioning optimally. The Linux Systems and Network Administrator will maintain the MROI servers, support infrastructure such as printers and backup servers, and manage document archives. They will also contribute to the support of secure, up-to-date content management. This position requires close collaboration with the Project Engineer, Project Scientist, and System Architects to ensure a secure computing environment that supports successful software development, commissioning, and operation of the MRO Interferometer. The role is critical in ensuring that the network infrastructure is robust and that all systems are well-documented and maintained. The administrator will be involved in day-to-day oversight, planning, and maintenance of the MRO network infrastructure both on campus and at the Magdalena Ridge. They will also handle system administration tasks for the MROI servers and desktop computer systems, develop and support the MROI document repository and digital archive, and support computing needs for outreach, development, and science-related activities. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the overall goals of the MROI project.
