About the position

The Principal Systems Administrator at RTX Corporation is responsible for managing and maintaining secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. This role requires collaboration with diverse teams to support critical programs involving classified information systems. The position demands expertise in troubleshooting operating systems, networking, and storage, with a focus on both Linux and Windows environments. The successful candidate will develop and implement standard operating procedures and provide system administration support during off-hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Principal system administration with a strong background in troubleshooting operating system issues (Windows and Linux), networking, and storage.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Support during off hours, including late nights/early mornings and possibly weekends while the team is deploying.
  • Provide system administration in a combined Linux, Windows, and VMware environment.
  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques to resolve technical problems of moderate to high scope and complexity, including the integration of hardware and operating systems.
  • Install and configure hardware and operating systems.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or a master's degree and a minimum of 3 years of prior relevant experience; if no degree, must have 9 full years of direct experience.
  • Must have VMware, Red Hat Linux, and Windows experience.
  • Must have a transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification and an Operating System Certification).
  • Experience with NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS, and/or DoD/RMF.
  • In-depth working experience in Windows Server.
  • Experience with data storage, NAS, and SAN technologies and solutions.
  • Experience using Information Technology project lifecycle management processes.
  • Experience using vCenter, vSphere, and ESX and/or other virtual computing methods.
  • Experience supporting engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.
  • Experience with Microsoft WSUS, SMECP, and/or Exchange.
  • Scripting experience.
