About the position

The Linux/Windows System Administrator at Amentum will support an IT Managed Services program in Albuquerque, New Mexico, focusing on maintaining and managing both Linux and Windows environments. This role involves daily monitoring, maintenance, and repair of server-based systems, as well as supporting incident escalations and collaborating with vendors to resolve technical issues. The position requires a proactive approach to system performance and capacity planning, along with the development of procedures and scripts to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily monitoring, maintenance, and repair of physical and virtual server-based systems.
  • Support incident escalations requiring considerable judgement and initiative to resolve technical issues affecting hardware, operating systems, or applications.
  • Work with vendors or external partners to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Maintain systems by applying operating system or application patches, installing new or replacing hardware, and creating/applying configuration changes to improve or restore system performance.
  • Develop instructions/procedures for System Administrators I & II.
  • Create scripts to aid with daily monitoring, maintenance, and repair of supported systems.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance checks.
  • Perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Assist users in accessing and using business systems.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and monitor current automation and network tool suite.
  • Ensure existing portfolio of network tools provides the ability to monitor, analyze, and identify workflow, traffic, and service impacts.
  • Collaborate with high performing teams to build, test, fix, deploy, and integrate new features and functionality.
  • Perform trouble resolution activities.
  • Update technical documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience, or an Associate's degree and 5 years of experience, or a High School degree/GED and 8 years of experience, or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) or DOE Q Government Clearance.
  • Hands-on experience supporting COTS software and services.
  • Strong Red Hat Linux experience on servers (80/20 Red Hat/Windows server support).
  • Familiarity with various operating systems, such as Unix, Linux, and Windows.
  • Knowledge of various network equipment.
  • Familiarity with automation.
  • Experience maintaining the integrity of servers and systems to meet established requirements for service levels, disaster recovery, business continuity, and security.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with LAN/WAN equipment such as routers, switches, and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with Automation Development.
  • Programming in a scripting language.
  • Experience with Linux scripting and Python.
  • Experience supporting network tools such as AKiPS, SecureCRT, Panorama, Ciena One Control, TACACS, and Radiator.
