About the position
As a Liquor Tax Examiner at the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations (BABLO), you will be critical to the regulation of this growing industry. You will go to work every day knowing that you are an important part of a team that keeps the people of Maine safe. This is intermediate-level regulatory work which offers the opportunity for limited remote work as well as career development and advancement- both within the Bureau and across Maine state government. BABLO provides training for all new hires, so you do not need direct experience in auditing or tax examination. Responsibilities
- Calculating excise tax reports required from wholesalers and manufacturers.
- Auditing invoices & reports.
- Issuing approvals or denials of alcoholic beverage label registrations and related regulatory filings.
- Corresponding with members of the industry and the public.
- Reviewing and issuing or denying licenses.
- Reconciling funds and accounts, processing refunds, and collecting protested checks and incorrect payments.
- Instructing industry members to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and best practices.
- Reviewing advertisements and promotions.
Requirements
- Experience in accounting or auditing.
- Demonstrated aptitude to learn and use critical thinking skills.
