About the position

ICF is seeking a Litigation Paralegal who is quick to learn and is interested in pursuing a career in law, compliance, or audit. This is an early-career opportunity that offers a hybrid work environment, requiring in-office presence 1-2 days a week in the Reston, Virginia area. The Litigation Paralegal will work under moderate supervision and will be responsible for supporting various actions related to ICF's litigation and other legal proceedings connected with the company's business. This role is crucial in supporting processes to track, report, and manage litigation, potential litigation, and other claim-related matters. Additionally, the paralegal will assist in the ongoing updates and development of policies and procedures, as well as support activities related to the operation of the legal team within the Office of General Counsel. The Office of General Counsel at ICF is responsible for advising on all legal matters, focusing on balancing the company's business objectives with legal requirements while minimizing legal risk, costs, and litigation exposure. The Litigation Paralegal will support all aspects of ICF's litigation activity, including managing service of process, conducting legal research on case status, managing all elements of the litigation file, and coordinating discovery and associated deadlines. The role also involves managing ICF's response to third-party processes, such as subpoenas or employment records requests, and overseeing document productions and related tasks in conjunction with associated deadlines. Furthermore, the paralegal will manage ICF's litigation hold process and coordinate garnishment and employee lien obligations in partnership with the Payroll team. The position requires supporting the tracking and preparation of reports on litigation and potential litigation, including regular updates to senior management and other stakeholders. The paralegal will maintain the legal team's litigation files and matter documentation, support eDiscovery-related policies and activities, and provide general support to ICF's ethics and compliance program activities as needed. This full-time opportunity offers relevant training and development for the ideal candidate, with minimal overtime expected at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting all aspects of ICF's litigation activity, including managing service of process, conducting legal research on case status, managing all elements of the litigation file, and coordinating discovery and associated deadlines.
  • Managing ICF's response to third-party process, for example, subpoena or employment records requests, including managing document productions and related tasks (redactions, privilege logs, and other) in conjunction with associated deadlines.
  • Managing ICF's litigation hold process, including engagement with ICF's IT team.
  • Coordinating, in partnership with Payroll team, ICF's garnishment and employee lien obligations.
  • Supporting the tracking of and assisting in preparation of reporting on litigation, potential litigation, and other claim-related matters, including regular reporting to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Maintaining the legal team's litigation files and matter documentation.
  • Supporting ICF's eDiscovery-related policies, processes, and activities.
  • Providing general support to ICF's ethics and compliance program activities, as needed.
  • Other legal department management-related projects, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certification.
  • 3+ years' paralegal or equivalent experience.
  • Background in Westlaw or LexisNexis, PACER, and other litigation-related applications.
  • Strong skillset in standard office software (MS Office, SharePoint, Adobe, etc.) with ability to quickly adapt to new technologies deployed by the department and across the company.
  • Excellent communication, client service, organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively with others, demonstrate excellent time management skills, and ability to monitor and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and resolution-oriented and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities quickly and comfortably.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in an in-house/corporate legal department.
  • Experience managing civil litigation matters.
  • Understanding, knowledge, and experience handling labor and employment-related matters, e.g., EEOC proceedings.
