About the position

Nelson Mullins is seeking a litigation paralegal to assist attorneys in their Torrance/Los Angeles office, focusing on representing leading automotive manufacturers and distributors in various legal matters, including state and federal proceedings, state motor vehicle proceedings, and class actions. The role involves substantial collaboration with attorneys and requires a strong understanding of the litigation life cycle, particularly in product liability cases.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide array of substantive tasks in collaboration with attorneys.
  • Track and manage court deadlines for assigned cases and maintain case calendars.
  • Electronically file legal documents with the Court using the ECF system under attorney supervision.
  • Conduct online research through PACER.
  • Assist in drafting pleadings, notices, and motions.
  • Prepare deposition notices and organize deposition materials, exhibits, and summaries.
  • Track and manage discovery processes, including overseeing document productions.
  • Participate in case strategy meetings and manage routine communications with courts, outside counsel, and clients.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm.
  • Experience in case preparation from beginning to end.
  • Understanding of a paralegal's role in the litigation life cycle, especially in product liability litigation.
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and take accountability for work.
  • Comfortable with technology and able to adapt to new software.
  • Solid research skills, utilizing tools like the Internet and Westlaw.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • A 2- or 4-year degree and a paralegal certificate are highly preferred, though relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
