Our New Orleans office has the opportunity for an experienced Paralegal to join the firm's expanding practice. On a day to day basis, the Paralegal researches law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist attorneys. Independently researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, appeals for review, approval, and use by attorney. The role requires a proactive approach to legal research and document preparation, ensuring that all materials are accurate and timely for court proceedings and attorney use. Essential Functions include researching law, investigating facts, and independently preparing documents to assist attorneys with various legal matters. The Paralegal will summarize complex legal documents, organize and index complex case files, determine and calendar deadlines, and perform a wide variety of legal research and data compilation with little or no supervision. Responsibilities also include filing pleadings with court clerks, preparing reports, correspondence, declarations, and complaints, drafting a wide variety of legal documents, and managing discovery requests and responses. The Paralegal will identify and prepare document productions, draft and issue third-party requests and subpoenas, and summarize records obtained from third parties. Additionally, maintaining production logs and drafting and maintaining fact chronology databases are key components of the role. The Paralegal will also prepare affidavits or documents, maintain document files, prepare for mediations and trials, assist attorneys at trial, and help in the preparation for depositions. Communication with witnesses and experts, scheduling, entering billing and expense data into the firm system in a timely manner, and coordinating major projects or cases, some of which may involve the work of multiple paralegals, are also essential functions of this position.
