About the position

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, is seeking a full-time Litigation Paralegal for our Ft. Lauderdale office. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in insurance defense and product liability. The Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support attorneys in their legal work, including researching law, investigating facts, and preparing necessary documents in accordance with established policies and procedures. The role requires a proactive approach to managing case files from inception through mediation, arbitration, and trial, ensuring that all aspects of the litigation process are handled efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of e-Filing in both State and Federal Court systems, and will be tasked with preparing initial discovery documents such as interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions. Additionally, the paralegal will draft responses to discovery requests, monitor deadlines, and prepare deposition summaries and legal documents including briefs, pleadings, and trial binders. Attention to detail is crucial, as the role involves ensuring proper indexing and filing of original legal documents, as well as capturing billable time in compliance with client guidelines. The Litigation Paralegal will also be expected to investigate facts as requested by attorneys and attend trials as necessary. This position requires a combination of strong analytical skills, written and oral communication abilities, and a commitment to quality and professionalism. Responsibilities

  • Continual review and management of case files from inception through mediation/arbitration/trial
  • Working knowledge and experience of e-Filing in both State and Federal Court systems
  • Prepare initial discovery, i.e., interrogatories, request for production, request for admissions
  • Prepare draft responses to discovery
  • Monitor deadlines for responses and timeliness
  • Prepare deposition summaries/abstracts
  • Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, factual chronologies, medical chronologies, agreements, depositions and/or trial binders for use by attorneys
  • Experience in recording/capturing billable time in compliance with client guidelines
  • Investigate facts as requested by attorney
  • Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents
  • Attend trial as necessary

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Three or more years of insurance defense and product liability litigation related experience is required
  • Must have working knowledge of internet software, Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, LexisNexis, Pacer, Relativity, Sanction, TrialPad, and E-Filing experience in both State and Federal Court systems
  • Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; able to read and interpret written information
  • Experience with trial preparation and participation/attendance, including organization of witness materials and preparation of physical and electronic exhibits
  • Knowledge of complex litigation, medical malpractice, construction, products liability, etc.
  • Listens and obtains clarification when necessary; responds well to questions
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality
