About the position

Phelps Dunbar LLP is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join its Litigation practice group. This role involves performing various substantive legal duties under the supervision and direction of attorneys. The Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for organizing and maintaining document-intensive files from the inception of cases through their completion. This includes conducting factual investigations and interviews to identify key parties, related issues, and relevant documents necessary for the preparation of discovery. The paralegal will also review E-discovery for production and extraction of key documents, assist in preparing answers to interrogatories, and coordinate depositions as requested by attorneys. In addition to these responsibilities, the Litigation Paralegal will summarize and organize depositions, records, and testimony using litigation support technology tools. Drafting various pleadings and filings associated with both administrative and judicial branches in Federal and State level civil litigation matters is also a key duty. The paralegal will assist with all aspects of case litigation and trial preparation, including identifying and marking exhibits for motions, position papers, mediation depositions, and trial. Verifying case citations in briefs for current validity and accuracy through Westlaw is essential, as is maintaining attorney calendars with case deadlines. The role requires interaction with various government and court officials, as well as clients, and assistance during trials with exhibits, demonstrative aids, and witnesses. The Litigation Paralegal will also be responsible for maintaining timesheets and meeting firm deadlines in accordance with firm policies. Knowledge of document review platforms such as Relativity, Reveal, Casepoint, and Everlaw is necessary, along with the ability to communicate and coordinate with experts for key data, reports, and supporting documents. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A four-year college degree and a certificate in paralegal studies is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years litigation experience is required.
  • Ability to manage complex litigation using current technology is required.
  • Must have a high level of computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of a document management system is required.
  • Experience using electronic resources and litigation support software is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent time management, organizational abilities, and strong proofreading skills are required.
