In this role, you will be expected to perform high-quality billable work that benefits our clients and supports our attorneys. You will manage a busy case load and are expected to record 1500 or more billable hours during the performance year, which runs from October 1 to September 30. Your responsibilities will include substantive legal support work under the supervision of an attorney, utilizing your knowledge of legal concepts to ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. It is important to note that while you will be performing significant legal work, you will not be rendering legal advice to clients. Your role will involve obtaining and managing client documents, conducting background checks, drafting various legal documents for attorney review, assisting in trial preparation, and conducting online research. You will need to juggle multiple assignments while maintaining professionalism and will be expected to assist colleagues when necessary. Accuracy in reviewing vendor invoices and timely submission for processing will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and manage client documents, including electronic data, and determine the relevance of documents for each case.
  • Conduct litigation, criminal, and civil background checks and obtain properly authenticated records as needed.
  • Draft removal documents, certificates of interested parties, answers, initial disclosures, various motions and orders, scheduling orders, protective orders, deposition notices, affidavits and declarations, discovery responses, settlement agreements, and dismissal documents for attorney review.
  • Assist with preparation of motions for summary judgment, checking deposition cites, assembling exhibits, and creating the appendix.
  • Identify and prepare all documents for production, including bates labeling and redacting privileged and confidential information.
  • Assist in trial preparation, managing exhibits and evidentiary matters, witness lists, files, and subpoenas, and coordinate and attend witness preparation meetings.
  • Conduct online research and utilize the firm's electronic resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining professionalism and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of vendor invoices and submit them to the office manager for processing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma required (College degree preferred).
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience required.
  • Labor & Employment experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Westlaw, Pacer, ECF, iManage or other comparable document management systems, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, CompuLaw, and Excel (Aderant knowledge is a plus).
