About the position

Kennedys, a global law firm with a strong presence in the US, is seeking a full-time Litigation Paralegal with a minimum of three years of experience in NY/NJ Commercial Defense Litigation. This position is based in our Basking Ridge, NJ office and offers a hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate will be an ambitious paralegal eager to contribute to a growing firm that specializes in defense litigation, particularly in heavy construction defect and personal injury cases. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting arbitration and trial processes. Your responsibilities will include the organization and management of large construction matters involving multiple parties and subcontractors. You will handle extensive document production, and familiarity with Electronic Discovery (ESI) is a plus. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing medical records, preparing discovery motions, and scheduling Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) for plaintiffs. Your research skills, particularly using Westlaw and other online resources, will be essential in assisting with expert retention and preparing necessary legal documents such as HIPAA Authorization Forms and jury verdict searches. This position requires a thorough understanding of the NY/NJ State and Federal Court Systems, as well as the ability to manage large document-heavy matters. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital for success in this role. The candidate should also have experience drafting and entering time entries, and a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited program is preferred, although relevant experience may be considered in lieu of certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide arbitration and trial support for litigation cases.
• Organize and manage large construction matters involving multiple parties and subcontractors.
• Handle large scale document production, with a preference for ESI knowledge.
• Review medical records and add relevant dates/information to the medical chronology.
• Prepare discovery motions including Motions to Extend Discovery, Motion to Compel Discovery, and Motion to Dismiss Complaint for Plaintiff's Failure to Provide Discovery.
• Review Plaintiff's Answers to Interrogatories.
• Schedule and coordinate Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) for plaintiffs.
• Conduct research using Westlaw and other online sources.
• Assist in the retention of experts for cases.
• Prepare HIPAA Authorization Forms for plaintiff's execution and return.
• Retrieve medical records from providers and follow up to ensure receipt of records of HIPAA requests.
• Perform jury verdict searches using Westlaw.
• Prepare appeals, motions, and privilege logs.
• Produce necessary documents for litigation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience in Insurance Defense Litigation.
• Thorough working knowledge of and experience in NY/NJ State and Federal Court Systems.
• Ability to work from home effectively.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to handle large document-heavy matters.
• Experience with ESI is preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience drafting and entering time entries.
• Experience with Westlaw.
• Paralegal Certificate from an ABA accredited program preferred or relevant years of experience.
