About the position

The Litigation Paralegal position at Travelers involves performing a variety of routine paralegal duties, assisting attorneys in legal case preparation, and managing files for standard legal matters. The role requires a solid understanding of legal issues and involves tasks such as legal research, drafting documents, and coordinating litigation requests. This position is essential for supporting the legal team in ensuring efficient case management and compliance with legal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic legal research and analyze to prepare legal documents.
  • Assist with projects as requested.
  • Compile and draft legal documents for review and use by attorneys, including routine documents, discovery responses, and affidavits.
  • Assist attorneys in preparation of witnesses for deposition and trial.
  • Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence.
  • Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses, and records.
  • Conduct routine investigations, including interviews as needed.
  • Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation.
  • Identify and select subject matter experts and provide instruction on areas to address.
  • Prepare and publish legal holds.
  • Prepare case summaries and case analysis reports.
  • Subpoena records.
  • Coordinate with Document Management to obtain underwriting files and certified policies.
  • Review and process bills for payment.
  • Capture time and record billable time in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Utilize technology to respond efficiently to discovery requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a paralegal or related work experience; or an Associate/Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certification from an ABA-Certified program and one year of paralegal or related work experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Paralegal or litigation/claim experience preferred.
  • Insurance related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Proficient in use of legal research software (e.g. Westlaw, Pacer); Microsoft Office and PDF Software.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced grammar and writing skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general law office procedures and local court/jurisdiction rules and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks.
  • Intermediate research and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and online research such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Ability to learn proprietary software systems.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-Certified program.
