About the position

Ultimate Staffing is seeking a Direct Hire Litigation Paralegal for a prominent law firm located in New Orleans, LA. This position is ideal for candidates with 3-5 years of experience in a litigation law firm. The role is in-office, operating Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $70,000 depending on experience. The Litigation Paralegal will play a crucial role in assisting attorneys with various legal tasks, including research, document production, and overall legal support to enhance the attorneys' practice. The Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for indexing, organizing, and analyzing legal documents, ensuring that all materials are prepared and accessible for the attorneys. Under the supervision of an attorney, the paralegal will prepare initial drafts of pleadings, discovery responses, and other necessary filings. The role also involves issuing subpoenas, performing basic background checks, and coordinating document production. Additionally, the paralegal may assist with witness preparation and attend depositions as required, contributing to trial preparation and potentially attending trials to support the attorneys. The position requires obtaining information through legal research platforms such as Westlaw and Lexis, and effective communication with clients, court personnel, experts, and attorneys is essential. The Litigation Paralegal will also be tasked with preparing deposition summaries and performing related duties as assigned, making this a dynamic and engaging role within the legal field.

Responsibilities

  • Index, organize and analyze legal and other documents.
  • Prepare initial drafts of pleadings, discovery responses, and other filings under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Issue subpoenas and perform basic background checks.
  • Coordinate and participate in document production.
  • Assist with witness preparation and attend depositions as required.
  • Assist with trial preparation and may attend and assist the attorneys during trial.
  • Prepare deposition summaries.
  • Obtain information using the Westlaw and Lexis systems.
  • Communicate with clients, court personnel, experts, attorneys and others by telephone, in person and in writing, obtaining and giving information as directed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate.
  • 3 years of experience as a paralegal or legal secretary in a position involving significant decision making responsibility.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
