About the position

Huntsman Corporation is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join our Global Legal Department at our corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas. This position is integral to supporting the Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Compliance, in managing the company's litigation efforts on a global scale. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-8 years of broad-based experience in litigation support, demonstrating a strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role is primarily in-office, with some flexibility for remote work as approved by company policy. As a Litigation Paralegal, you will be responsible for coordinating the intake of new matters, which includes managing service of process, setting up case files, and preparing legal holds. You will support the Associate General Counsel in all aspects of matter management, including trials, pre-trial practices, e-discovery, and other litigation-related activities. Regular updates will be prepared for company officers, auditors, and the board of directors, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of ongoing litigation matters. In addition, you will collaborate with internal lawyers and various corporate functions such as HR, finance, and accounts payable to provide necessary corporate information and assistance. Leading discovery efforts in coordination with outside and in-house counsel will be a key responsibility, as will managing settlements, periodic accruals, and supporting documentation. You will also oversee mandatory Medicare reporting and assist with SOX control auditing and testing. This position requires a mature and professional individual who can communicate effectively with senior executives and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate intake of all new matters, including service of process, setting up case files, and preparing and distributing legal holds.
  • Support the Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Compliance, in all aspects of matter management, including trials and pre-trial practice, e-discovery, and other litigation-related activities.
  • Prepare regular updates for company officers, auditors, and the board of directors.
  • Work with internal lawyers and other corporate functions (e.g., HR, finance, credit, accounts payable) to provide corporate information and general corporate assistance.
  • Lead discovery efforts within the company in coordination with outside and in-house counsel.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel and representatives of other companies in connection with Huntsman's indemnity rights.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of settlements, periodic accruals, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee mandatory Medicare reporting.
  • Assist with SOX control auditing and testing.
  • Coordinate response to subpoenas for employee records and wage garnishment requests, including internal and external communication.
  • Work with litigation counsel and internal stakeholders to prepare, update, and maintain quarterly and annual forecasts and budgets.
  • Oversee management of legacy toxic tort docket.
  • Provide administrative support and assistance on various projects, policy and procedure development, and other continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate and 5+ years' experience as a litigation paralegal with a large law firm and/or in-house legal department of a multinational company.
  • Bachelor's degree preferable.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • A team player who has strong interpersonal skills.
  • A mature and professional individual with the ability to communicate with senior executives and attorneys and handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, database and case management applications.
  • Technical competence and experience with e-billing, matter management, legal hold management software and eDiscovery review tools.
  • Experience with entity management databases is a plus.
