About the position

The Litigation Paralegal at HunterMaclean will support the Litigation Attorneys by assisting in various phases of the litigation process, including corporate litigation, admiralty, and medical malpractice defense. This role requires a proactive approach to utilizing technology and resources to enhance work efficiency and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist during all phases of the litigation process.
  • Draft, prepare, and file pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and other litigation-based documentation.
  • Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation.
  • Prepare for and attend depositions and trials, including scheduling with Court Reporters.
  • Edit and proofread documents using tracking features in Word.
  • Aid attorneys in mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation.
  • Continuously maintain electronic and paper files.
  • Draft and revise formal correspondence.
  • Coordinate and track document productions and deadlines, including mass discovery production.
  • Conduct various document searches and factual research.
  • Schedule case events related to discovery and case management, including depositions and hearings.
  • Maintain attorney's schedule with direction from attorney.
  • Schedule client meetings and communicate with clients daily.
  • Communicate and schedule matters with Judicial Assistants and Court Administrators daily.
  • Assist with posting billing entries and generating invoices for attorneys when needed.
  • Perform conflict checks and open new client matters in the practice management system when needed.
  • Proficiently e-file in both state and federal court in a timely manner.
  • Accurately account for billable time.
  • Complete administrative duties such as typing, calendaring, and filing as needed.
  • Organize and label documents consistently and accurately.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of litigation experience.
  • Excellent word processing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple time-sensitive tasks.
  • Extremely professional, well organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, and Appellate Rules of Procedure.
  • Advanced technology skills, including paperless document and case management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous use of firm's current document and billing management systems (NetDocs, Aderant, iTimeKeep) is a plus.
