About the position

The Lead Technician / Head Audio Engineer at Venue Production Group Inc. is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of audio production for various events in historic theaters throughout the greater Los Angeles area. This role involves managing technical staff, ensuring high-quality audio service, and maintaining venue audio systems while collaborating with other departments to meet client needs and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Make technical decisions aligned with client needs and budgets; inform the General Manager of any anticipated budget overages.
  • Maintain an understanding of all venue technical systems, including rigging, audio, and fly rail systems.
  • Communicate with lighting or video heads for shows scheduled at the venue, completing departmental advance work as per timelines.
  • Prepare stage plots and relevant documentation for events, resolving any issues in collaboration with other department heads.
  • Manage equipment rental, from obtaining quotes to overseeing usage and return without additional costs.
  • Train replacement technicians on show specifics to ensure smooth operations.
  • Develop and oversee a maintenance plan for venue audio equipment, suggesting new equipment purchases as needed.
  • Work on all crew call days and attend venue meetings as required.
  • Support office work and maintenance as needed.
  • Perform crew work for non-venue labor calls as needed.
  • Maintain regular phone availability and respond promptly to company emails.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in theater, concert, and corporate audio, with a strong foundation in modern stage audio technology, digital sound reinforcement, and audio processing.
  • Proficiency in brands and equipment, including Digico, Yamaha, L'Acoustics, D&B, Midas, Allen&Heath, Lake Processors, Smaart, Shure wireless systems, Clear-Com Helixnet and Freespeak, and industry standard microphones.
  • Comprehensive understanding of audio signal path, stage audio components, and ability to troubleshoot audio systems.
  • Strong team leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to motivate and coordinate effectively with colleagues and crew.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a diverse client base and adapt to various project needs.
