About the position

The Live Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing live operations within the poultry industry, ensuring production schedules are met while optimizing efficiencies and budgetary objectives. This role involves managing a team, implementing procedures, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance operational effectiveness and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage live operations by establishing procedures and adjusting as necessary to meet production schedules, increase efficiencies and to meet or exceed budgetary objectives
  • Oversee breed evaluations and recommendations, grower contract maintenance, departmental costs and performance and capital prioritization for assigned locations
  • Increase profit margins through feed programs, housing management, flock analysis, and performance and efficiency for all live departments
  • Provide feedback and input surrounding overall effectiveness of live operations programs; communicate areas for improvement to increase efficiencies and profit margins to appropriate leadership
  • Partner with Poultry Boards, Poultry Labs, Universities and Suppliers to improve industry practices and identify research opportunities aimed to enhance industry and company knowledge
  • Provide expertise as a member of cross-functional project teams in Yield, Bird Size, Bird Weight, and Bird Weight Projections
  • Mentor, coach and train/cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvement
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions on a fair and consistent basis
  • Follow and promote all safety initiatives helping to maintain a zero accident culture
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Poultry or Agricultural Science or other related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in live poultry operations
  • Demonstrated minimum three (3) years leadership experience including Top 25 behaviors, conflict resolution and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively
  • Strong customer focus with exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient computer and math skills
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency
