About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer specializing in Load Balancing Services, you will be responsible for leading engineering projects and managing business aspects related to load balancing. This role requires a deep understanding of technical and architectural development, as well as automation processes. You will work closely with application and automation teams to create and refine technical processes that enhance load balancing operations. Your leadership will be crucial in establishing new architectural standards in collaboration with architect leads, ensuring that all network service requests are met efficiently and effectively. In this position, you will drive load balancing projects and manage Jira requests, ensuring they are completed on time while maintaining compliance with audit responsibilities. You will also be tasked with developing and reviewing technical scripts for network implementations, adhering to the change management process. Your role may require you to support change implementation during nights and weekends, balancing technical completeness with business needs to achieve accuracy and timeliness in project delivery. You will engage with vendors, particularly F5, to meet the technical goals of the firm, holding them accountable for deliverables that align with both individual and organizational objectives. Your ability to collaborate seamlessly with stakeholders across various teams will be essential in delivering infrastructure solutions that meet the demands of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop new architectural standards with architect leads
  • Collaborate with peer and other team engineers/business partners to deliver on Load Balancing network service requests
  • Drive Load Balancing projects and Jira requests to timely completion
  • Maintain compliance with audit responsibilities related to Load Balancing configurations and architectural standards
  • Develop and/or review technical scripts for network implementations via the change management process
  • Support some night and weekend change implementation windows
  • Manage/Balance technical completeness while achieving business needs (accuracy and timeliness)
  • Work with F5 and other vendors to achieve the technical goals of the firm while holding the vendors accountable to the needs of individual and/or firm goals/deliverables.

Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders seamlessly and successfully team cross-organizationally on infrastructure deliverables

  • Ability to balance multiple projects, analyze problems, and prioritize tasks

  • Able to self-manage work and complete assigned tasks within deadlines
  • Advanced knowledge of F5 Hardware
  • Resilient cabling / appropriate use of ASIC / FPGA layouts to ensure appropriate fault domains
  • Certification processes of new devices/models
  • Sizing of hardware to ensure appropriate capacity/resiliency in clustered and standalone deployments
  • Advanced knowledge of F5 Load Balancers
  • Focus on LTM and GTM modules, but also ability to function in AFM and APM
  • Clustering / High availability design and implementation for both chassis and non-chassis based deployments
  • Advanced routing module, BGP, OSPF, and how these things function in standalone and clustered deployments
  • Ability to function 100% on the command line (TMSH, BASH, IMISH)
  • Understanding of iCall, triggering methods, scripting language, etc.
  • Understanding of iRules, triggering events, scripting language, etc.
  • Automation abilities
  • Knowledge of one or more of AS3, DO, and TS addons to F5 TMOS
  • Ability to understand and create scripts in one or more of: Python, Bash, Powershell
  • Ability to call iControl or iControlREST APIs on the devices and process the output into useful reporting
  • High level understanding of Ansible or Terraform
  • Operational abilities
  • Ability to 'see the forest through the trees' on troubleshooting calls
  • Understand problem statements as defined by teams with no networking knowledge
  • Create and follow maintenance plans/keep the lights on activities
  • Participate in an oncall schedule, as well as other pre-planned night/weekend activities
  • Drive problem resolution (post-incident) to ensure appropriate action items and preventative measures are designed/implemented.
