About the position

The Loan Credit Specialist 3 position is responsible for reviewing, renewing, monitoring, and decisioning loan applications in a centralized environment, specifically for commercial and industrial (C&I) and commercial real estate loans. This role involves utilizing judgmental credit analysis underwriting approaches and providing support to Relationship Managers and other departments regarding loan decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on a review of all underwriting criteria.
  • Review financial statements and identify project cash flow and income potential from loan applications.
  • Provide due diligence conditions required to approve loans, applying local knowledge of the commercial real estate market.
  • Evaluate all commercial loan requests using knowledge of credit policy, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Exhibit knowledge of fair lending issues, HMDA, and regulations impacting commercial lending.
  • Utilize judgmental commercial credit underwriting skills to render decisions within assigned loan authority.
  • Summarize and adjudicate final credit decisions on a credit processing system monitored by management.
  • Refer and recommend loans above approval limits to a Senior Loan Credit Specialist or Team Leader.
  • Perform in a dynamic production environment and meet productivity goals.
  • Analyze the financial condition of existing and prospective bank customers.
  • Review financial statements and tax returns to evaluate a Borrower's ability to repay.
  • Seek alternative financing means or counter offers when original requests cannot be accommodated.
  • Mentor lower-level Loan Credit Specialists and assist the document analysis center as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or economics required.
  • 5 years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in the banking industry required.
  • Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of deposit and loan accounting systems preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate Excel and Word skills.
