About the position
The Loan Credit Specialist 3 position at Hancock Bank involves reviewing, renewing, monitoring, and decisioning loan applications for commercial and industrial loans, as well as commercial real estate loans. This role requires a judgmental credit analysis underwriting approach and the ability to recommend approval terms for loans exceeding assigned authority. The specialist will support Relationship Managers and other departments in communicating loan decisions and ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on underwriting criteria.
- Review financial statements and identify project cash flow and income potential.
- Provide due diligence conditions required to approve loans.
- Evaluate commercial loan requests using knowledge of credit policy and guidelines.
- Utilize judgmental commercial credit underwriting skills to render decisions.
- Summarize and adjudicate final credit decisions on a credit processing system.
- Refer loans above approval limits to senior specialists or team leaders.
- Analyze the financial condition of existing and prospective customers.
- Review financial statements and tax returns to evaluate repayment ability.
- Seek alternative financing options or counter offers for borrowers.
- Mentor lower-level Loan Credit Specialists.
- Assist the document analysis center with due diligence or loan conditions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or economics.
- 5 years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in the banking industry.
- Attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of deposit and loan accounting systems.
Nice-to-haves
- Intermediate Excel and Word skills.
- Familiarity with commercial real estate market.
