About the position

The Loan Officer Assistant - Bilingual Spanish position at M&T Bank serves as a crucial liaison between mortgage originators and customers, ensuring effective communication and resolution of inquiries. This role is designed to provide comprehensive support to assigned mortgage originators, facilitating the sales, marketing, and operational processes necessary for successful loan applications. The assistant will adhere to the requirements set forth by the SAFE Act, ensuring compliance and operational integrity throughout the loan process. In this role, the Loan Officer Assistant will assist the Loan Officer in developing and managing a referral source, as well as a prospect and customer base. This includes implementing marketing and sales support programs aimed at generating new business opportunities. The assistant will interact directly with customers to guide them through the application process, ensuring that all necessary documentation is collected and accurate. Follow-up on loan conditions as specified in the commitment letter is also a key responsibility, as is collaboration with the Production department personnel, including processors, underwriters, and closers, to ensure that loan files are complete and ready for closing within the required time frames. The position requires the assistant to maintain organized records of current and required loan documents for all loan programs, take loan applications as necessary, and input loan data into the processing system. Additionally, the assistant will be responsible for providing required reporting to the Loan Officer and adhering to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with company and regulatory standards. Promoting a diverse work environment that reflects the M&T Bank brand is also an essential aspect of this role. The Loan Officer Assistant will be expected to maintain M&T's internal control standards and address any audit points or issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist Loan Officer in developing and managing a referral source, prospect and customer base.
• Assist Loan Officer in developing and implementing marketing/sales support programs to develop new business.
• Interact with customers to complete the application process, ensuring all necessary supporting loan documentation is obtained and accurate.
• Provide follow-up on loan conditions as required by commitment letter.
• Interact with Production department personnel (processors, underwriters, closers) to ensure loan application file is complete and conditions are met.
• Serve as communication liaison between customer, M&T Corporation, and loan officer.
• Initiate and answer calls to/from customers in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
• Maintain and organize current and required loan documents for all loan programs as needed.
• Take loan applications as necessary and input loan data into processing system via laptop.
• Assist Loan Officer in providing required reporting as needed.
• Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points.

Requirements

• High school diploma (or equivalent) or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of Secondary Marketing requirements.
• Knowledge of FHA/VA regulations.
• Knowledge of Bank products and services.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Flexible to travel within region and work overtime and/or flexible schedule as needed.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior mortgage experience.
• Knowledge of software utilized by department.
