About the position

The Loan Officer is responsible for processing consumer, mortgage, and construction loan applications while ensuring compliance with bank policies and regulatory timelines. This role involves evaluating applicants' financial capabilities, managing loan portfolios, and cross-selling bank products to enhance customer relationships and business development.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly processes consumer, mortgage, and construction loan applications.
• Understands and follows the timelines for RESPA and sets borrower expectations for the application process.
• Reviews applications for completeness, completes loan worksheets, credit reports, and calculates debt ratios to determine applicant's ability to pay.
• Understands appraisal reports and the appraisal process.
• Cross-sells bank products and services by providing general information and directing prospective customers to a Customer Service Representative.
• Communicates with customers to inform and explain the approval or denial of a loan request.
• Processes denials within guidelines.
• Manages loan portfolio for document exceptions, policy exceptions, and collections.
• Understands and follows bank policies and procedures.
• Builds a network of real estate agents, home builders, community leaders, and other centers of influence for business development.
• Oversees and manages bank marketing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Two to four years of experience in a financial institution or loan setting.
• Good understanding and knowledge of financial institution products and services.
• Good cross-selling, management, and organizational skills.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Good computer and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of Excel Spreadsheets.
• Experience with Encompass mortgage platform is a plus.
• Good conversational, people, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of responsibilities under the Bank Secrecy Act through initial and periodic training.
