About the position

The Loan Officer at Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority is responsible for overseeing loan servicing requirements and processing new loan applications. This role involves assisting the HYFC Manager with daily operations, including customer outreach, data management, and providing support for various loan types such as mortgage, business, and clean energy loans.

Responsibilities

  • Receive new loan applications and review for completeness
  • Communicate with applicants throughout processing
  • Process applications in the DownHome database
  • Run and review credit reports
  • Complete debt-to-income (DTI) workbook to assist in determining eligibility
  • Prepare documents for loan committee
  • Prepare all correspondence related to loans
  • Prepare loans for payment
  • Advise clients about risks, consequences, and benefits of alternative lending solutions
  • Develop loan applications by evaluating applicant information and documentation
  • Consult with clients about their lending needs
  • Evaluate loan applications and inform applicants of additional requirements
  • Reject loans by explaining deficiencies to applicants
  • Schedule and track closing dates, contingency dates, and loan lock expirations
  • Approve loans by issuing checks or forwarding applications to loan committee
  • Complete loan contracts by explaining provisions to applicants and collecting fees
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate loan files
  • Use technology to manage loan pipeline and conduct credit and underwriting analysis
  • Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional networks
  • Help customers by answering questions and responding to requests
  • Maintain customer confidence by keeping loan information confidential
  • Provide portfolio and data management support as needed
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Assist with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program as needed
  • Type or produce reports or correspondence using business software
  • Schedule one-on-one coaching with new loan applicants
  • Set up class Zoom meetings and maintain contact with clients
  • Provide support during meetings and assist with Financial Capacity class content
  • Contact and send reminders to Financial Capacity class participants
  • Follow up with Financial Capacity class participants with surveys
  • Assist other HYFC staff with special projects
  • Respond to emergency requests as needed
  • Travel to southeast communities as necessary

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 12 months of experience (paid or volunteer) in loan origination, processing, or servicing
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read, comprehend, explain, and apply written procedures
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions
  • Working knowledge of business practices and correspondence formats
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations
  • Working knowledge of filing and record keeping systems
  • Ability to recognize differences among data and compare for accuracy
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Ability to greet visitors and handle inquiries from the public
  • Ability to perform complex data entry tasks
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and computer systems
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
