About the position

The Loan Processor is responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing applications for various types of loans, including consumer, credit card, and overdraft accounts. This role involves direct interaction with applicants to explain credit policies, gather necessary documentation, and ensure a smooth loan approval process. The Loan Processor also provides general information about the Credit Union and cross-sells services to members, ensuring compliance with established policies and maintaining professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process loan applications effectively.
  • Interview applicants, gather information, and process preliminary documentation on loan requests.
  • Evaluate and verify loan applications and credit criteria, including computing debt ratios and verifying employment and income.
  • Determine the value of collateral and notify applicants of loan decisions.
  • Coordinate and process loan closings, ensuring proper documentation and timely disbursement.
  • Calculate terms, finance charges, and insurance for loans for disclosure on promissory notes.
  • Assist in servicing loans, including processing payoffs, refinances, and payment extensions.
  • Follow up on pending titles and verify car insurance coverage.
  • Sell credit life, disability, and mortgage insurance.
  • Maintain effective business relationships with members and resolve their requests promptly.
  • Counsel members on money management and financial matters.
  • Coordinate communication with area personnel and management, assisting as needed.
  • Complete reports and records accurately and attend required meetings.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with required loan training and certification.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union loan services, policies, and procedures.
  • Understanding of related legal and regulatory standards and required loan documentation.
  • Knowledge of consumer and residential lending practices.
  • Minimum one year of related experience, preferably in lending or a full-service financial institution.
  • Excellent interviewing, communication, and public relations skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment.
